Are you still sometimes afraid of the dark?
Do you justify staying out a little longer, than a brown girl is supposed to?
Do you feel guilty for having a mind of your own?
Do you secretly feel selfish while trying to up your sense of self?
Do you still completely lose yourself when someone raises their voice?
Do the shrieks of the past still terrorize you,
even when YOU are in, the position of power?
Are there things,
you suddenly realize,
you learn in your troubled past,
that, you now, spend your adulthood,
trying to unlearn?
Better late, than never :)
